Associated Press

CHASKA, Minn. — Facts and figures for the 91st PGA Championship:
Dates: Aug. 13-16

Site: Hazeltine National Golf Club
Length: 7,674 yards
Par: 36-36—72
Playoff format: Three holes, stroke play
Purse: TBA ($7.5 million in 2008)
Prize: Wanamaker Trophy
Field: 156 professionals (20 club pros)
Defending champion: Padraig Harrington
Last year: In a marathon Sunday because of rain at Oakland Hills, Harrington overcame a three-shot deficit with nine holes and closed with a 4-under 66 to become the first European ever to win consecutive majors in the same season. Harrington trailed Sergio Garcia until the Spaniard put his approach in the water on the 16th, missed a 4-foot birdie on the 17th and made bogey from the bunker on the 18th. Ben Curtis also had a chance until a bogey on the 17th. He tied for second, two shots behind.
Last time at Hazeltine: Rich Beem made the only eagle of the tournament on the par-5 11th to build a commanding lead in the final round, and hung on for a one-shot victory after Tiger Woods birdied the last four holes.
Major champions at Hazeltine: Tony Jacklin (1970 U.S. Open), Payne Stewart (1991 U.S. Open), Beem (2002 PGA Championship).
Key statistic: The PGA Championship has produced the fewest first-time major champions (3) of any major this decade.
Tiger Tales: The PGA Championship is the only major where Tiger Woods has never missed the cut.
Noteworthy: The world ranking of the major champions this year were No. 69 (Angel Cabrera), No. 71 (Lucas Glover) and No. 33 (Stewart Cink).
Quoteworthy: “I’ve just got to put it together at the right time. You can’t win majors playing poorly.” — Tiger Woods, whose four PGA Tour victories this year do not include a major.
