NCAA: UConn self reports 17 minor violations

Associated Press

HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Connecticut has self-reported 17 minor NCAA violations in its football and men's and women's basketball programs over the last five years.

According to the Hartford Courant, such cases normally don't result in probation for schools or lost eligibility for athletes.

Among the violations: overpaying meal money and a men's basketball trainer who arranged for an injured player to ride back to a hotel with a UConn employee, instead of finding his own ride.

The women's basketball program had the most violations with seven. The men's team had six and the football team had three. One violation involved overpaying meal money to football and women's basketball players.

University of Vermont sports law analyst Michael McCann said the number of violations struck him as "not a high number."
