See new Pacific films at Doris Duke Theatre

Advertiser Staff

The Doris Duke Theatre is featuring a Cultural Forum Through Film series this weekend, with free films from the Pacific region.

Today at 1 p.m., catch the U.S. premiere of “From Street to Sky,” a film about New Zealand roots musician Tigalu Ness, who became a Rastafarian while imprisoned for fighting for Maori sovereignty.
Another premiere starts at 4 p.m., this one “The Oasis,” an Australian documentary about one man’s battle to save children in inner-city Sydney.
If that’s not enough, “Killer Whale and Crocodile” has its Hawaii premiere at 7:30 p.m., about a carver from Vancouver Island who travels to Papua New Guinea, where he and another carver share the myths and legends that inform their arts.
