Defending national champion Florida tops the USA Today preseason football coaches' poll, receiving 53 of 59 first-place votes.

Texas was second in the poll released yesterday, followed by Oklahoma, Southern California, Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Penn State, LSU and Mississippi.

Texas had four first-place votes, and Oklahoma and Southern California each had one.

Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference was ranked No. 16. TCU (No. 17), Utah (No. 18) and BYU (No. 24) were among the other non-BCS schools in the Top 25.

Hawai'i, which finished 7-7 last season, wasn't listed among "others receiving votes."

The Associated Press preseason Top 25 will be released Aug. 22.
