Advertiser Staff

The Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park will be closing all back country trails and campsites due to Tropical Storm Felicia's approach, according to officials.

Park officials decided to close the back country trails and campsites due to the potential severe weather hazard posed by Tropical Storm Felicia. These areas are closed until further notice.
The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch for the island of Hawaiçi, which means that tropical storm may occur with high wind, surf, and rain anytime within the next 48 hours.
“We are taking the necessary steps now to ensure that our visitors and
employees stay safe,” said Chief Ranger Talmadge Magno. "We will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Felicia and if weather conditions intensify, there could be more closures within the park."
