Hawai'i County police detectives have initiated a coroner's inquest case in connection with the discovery of a body on Keiki Beach, on the south side of Honokohau Harbor, late Friday night.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Kelly Susan Stevens of Kailua, Kona.

Kona patrol officers responded to an 11:51 p.m. report of a female body lying unresponsive on rocks on the north end of Keiki Beach. The body was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead at 4:18 a.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
