NFL: Shaun Hill will start at QB for 49ers against Broncos

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Shaun Hill will start at quarterback in the San Francisco 49ers’ exhibition opener Friday night against the Denver Broncos.

Coach Mike Singletary insists this is no hint who will be under center come the regular season.
Hill, who worked with the No. 1 offense during the team’s walkthrough Thursday, doesn’t have a specific number of plays he will get. Singletary says the flow of the game will dictate when he turns the offense over to Alex Smith and the other quarterbacks.
Hill and Smith have been fairly even through the first 13 days of training camp, Singletary’s first calling the shots. He took over for the fired Mike Nolan on Oct. 20 and Nolan will return as Denver’s defensive coordinator.
