Navy says gunshots heard at Pearl Harbor were part of exercise

Advertiser Staff

The sound of gunshots in recent days in the vicinity of Pearl Harbor were blanks fired as part of a security field training exercise, the Navy said.

The exercise was held Tuesday through Wednesday to evaluate the interoperability of ashore and afloat security forces. During the drills, Navy vessels responded to simulated attacks.
Increased security measures were in place yesterday in connection with the exercise, causing some delays at the Nimitz, Makalapa, Halawa and Porter gates at Pearl Harbor, the Navy said.
