CDC launches line of e-cards that focuses on health issues

By Courtney Perkes

So when is the right occasion to suggest an STD test or wish someone a seizure-free day?

Hallmark isn't making greeting cards about folic acid or colonoscopies but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a whole line aimed at improving health.

You can e-mail an e-card suggesting that the recipient limit salt intake or know the normal range for blood pressure. Actor Jimmy Smits appears on a card advising colorectal screenings.

Once you click to open the card, you are given some quick health facts and a Web site for more information. For instance, the card about an alcohol-free pregnancy says drinking during pregnancy is one of the top causes of preventable birth defects and developmental disabilities.

To browse the selection, go to http://www2a.cdc.gov/ecards/browse.asp?actbrs. Cards are also available in Spanish.
