CHICAGO — For the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, it was flying practice. For the Chicago Cubs, batting practice.

Pilots prepared for the weekend's Chicago Air & Water Show by zipping their loud jets tantalizingly close to Wrigley Field's upper deck during yesterday's second inning. The Cubs, meanwhile, were making noise with their bats.

"It was cool to watch, but it's hard to hit when you're expecting some bomber to fly over your head," Derrek Lee said. "It was a little distracting."

Lee doubled twice and drove in a career-high tying seven runs in the Cubs' 17-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

He had a two-run double and a bases-loaded walk in a 10-run second inning to go with an RBI single in the first and a three-run double in the fourth before coming out of the game.

Cardinals 9, Padres 2: Adam Wainwright joined Boston's Josh Beckett as the only 14-game winners in the majors and contributed his fifth career homer for host St. Louis. Wainwright (14-7) scattered eight hits in seven innings, his 10th straight start allowing two or fewer earned runs.

Brewers 11, Astros 2: Ryan Braun homered in each of the first two innings and Felipe Lopez hit a three-run shot in an eight-run first, lifting host Milwaukee over Houston. Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo (11-9) struck out seven over six innings and tied a career-high with three RBIs.

Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 1: Dan Haren pitched eight solid innings as host Arizona beat Los Angeles. Haren (12-7) helped himself with an RBI single in Arizona's four-run second inning off Clayton Kershaw. Haren allowed six hits, struck out eight, walked two and hit a batter.

Marlins 6, Rockies 5: Josh Johnson allowed one hit and had a career-high 11 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings for host Florida. Johnson (12-2) had not given up a hit until Garrett Atkins homered on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the seventh. The Marlins' right-hander allowed three walks and one run.

Nationals 2, Reds 0: Rafael Belliard and Wil Nieves hit solo home runs to back Garrett Mock's seven solid innings and visiting Washington snapped a three-game losing streak. Mock (2-4) allowed six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Phillies 3, Braves 2: Ryan Howard led off the ninth inning with a homer and visiting Philadelphia won its fourth straight. Howard drove a 2-1 pitch off Rafael Soriano (1-4) into the center-field seats. Brad Lidge escaped trouble in the ninth for his 22nd save.

Mets 3, Giants 0: Bobby Parnell pitched six crisp innings in his second major league start and host New York beat San Francisco. Parnell (3-4) limited the Giants to three singles and struck out seven.
