Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office said this morning that a Japanese tourist who went missing after swimming off the Hilton Hawaiian Village Friday had drowned and identified him as Yoichiro Yamada, 29.

.

Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Earle Kealoha said HFD responded to a reported drowning at 1651 Ala Moana, Blvd, also known as Kaisers, at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, the body was already out of the water and on the shore, said Kealoha.

The body was found floating in the water just off the Hilton pier used by Atlantis Submarines to shuttle their customers out to their submarines.

Using a photo his family provided to first responders previously, the man was positively identified as the missing Japanese visitor who emergency responders had been searching for since Friday afternoon.

EMS personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.
