Track and field: Hurdler Taylor out after appeal denied at worlds

Associated Press

BERLIN — Olympic champion Angelo Taylor lost an appeal Sunday to be reinstated back into the 400-meter hurdles, ending his title quest at the world championships.

The American originally finished fourth in his heat Saturday, but the meet official ruled that third-place finisher Brendan Cole of Australia had trail-leg violations over three hurdles.
Later, the Australian delegation filed a protest and the referee reversed his decision after looking at the video.
So Taylor, the champion from Beijing, was out again. Team USA appealed the decision to the jury of appeals Sunday, but it was denied.
Taylor said he got off to a good start, only to fade at the end. He finished 0.01 seconds behind Cole.
