Having recently proven that not all shave ice spots are alike, my Twitter friends and I were curious about the differences between the O'ahu shrimp trucks. So travel agent extraordinaire Bruce Fisher got us a van, we piled in and headed out to the North Shore.

Many of you may already have a favorite. I went into this unbiased, as I had never (gasp!) had Kahuku shrimp. We tried the famous Giovanni's, the more unknown Famous, and everything in between. By the end, we were shrimped out, and I still had to review shrimp joints in Metro Honolulu.

For us, the unanimous decision was that Macky's was the best overall (taste, freshness, value, and service), but Famous probably had the best single garlic/butter shrimp (which is a staple at all shrimp trucks). Giovanni's probably has the best PR.

I posted pictures of all the plates we tried on a gallery on www.Metromix.com. Check it out and let me know. What's your favorite shrimp truck and why? What's your favorite preparation?

As for me and my friends ... well, we're probably not going to eat shrimp for a while.
