Central Medical Clinic wins summer league title

Kyle Pape's 3-pointer with three seconds left lifted Central Medical Clinic to a 100-99 victory over Electricians Hawai'i in the championship basketball game of the NCAA Summer League last night at Manoa Recreation Center.

Derrick Low's half-court shot missed as time expired for Electricians Hawai'i.

Pape, a former 'Iolani School and Colorado School of Mines athlete, led all scorers with 29 points.

Low, a 'Iolani and Washington State alum, scored 27.

Brandon Matano added 19 for Central Medical Clinic.

VERCRUYSSEN WINS TITLE

Honolulu's Nani Vercruyssen won the senior women's individual trampoline event at the USA gymnastics national championships yesterday in Dallas.

Vercruyssen, of the Hawai'i Academy finished ahead of Alaina Williams of Huntsville, Ala. and Haley Butcher of St. John, Ind.

On Friday, Vercruyssen and Williams teamed to earn the senior elite women's synchronized trampoline title.

GOLF

HAWAI'I TRAILS BY TWO

Hawai'i shot a 1-over-par 217 yesterday and was tied for third, two strokes behind leader British Columbia after the first round of the Eddie Hogan Cup at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Ore.

British Columbia is at 215, followed by Northern California (216) and Hawai'i and Utah. The team score takes the top three scores among four team members.

Bryson Dechambeau of Clovis, Calif., shot a 3-under 69 for a one-stroke lead in the individual competition. Devon Purser of Clearfield, Utah, and Kevin Kwon of Pitt Meadows, B.C., were tied for second at 70.

Hawai'i's Justin Keiley of Haiku, Maui, was tied for fourth at 71, while Bradley Shigezawa of Honolulu was tied for sixth with a 72. Thomas Yamashita of Kapolei was tied for 12th at 74, while Brent Komoto of Honolulu was tied for 20th at 79.

The competition ends today.

The Hogan Cup pits junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada. Medals are awarded to the top three teams as well as the top three individuals.
