GRANT THORNTON

Lawrence Chew has been promoted to audit partner at Grant Thornton International Ltd. A 25-year veteran of the firm, he has extensive experience providing accounting and audit services to financial services, wholesale and retail merchandising, real estate development and management companies, construction companies, not-for-profit industries and governmental agencies.

Chew fills the position vacated by audit partner Howard Hanada, who retired after more than 30 years with the firm. During his career, Hanada audited governmental agencies, real estate developers, hotels, retail and wholesale companies, construction contractors and nonprofit organizations.

HOSPICE HAWAII

Hospice Hawaii has named Geoffrey Galbraith, M.D. as its new co-medical director. He will work with management and the transdisciplinary teams responsible for the day-to-day care of hospice patients. Galbraith brings 35 years of clinical, educational, and medical administration experience to his new position. He was most recently associate medical director for physician leadership and professional development with Kaiser Permanente.

HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY

Hawaiian Electric Company has appointed Peggy Fowler to its board of directors.

She recently retired as president and CEO of Portland General Electric. During her 35 years there, she managed nearly every area of the company, including positions in environmental, customer service, energy delivery, power production and hydroelectric and substation operations. Fowler continues to serve on the board of directors of Portland General Electric.

HO'ALA LANDSCAPE

Ho'ala Landscape and Maintenance, a full-service grounds and building maintenance firm, has promoted Nestor Lomboy Sr. from landscape manager to grounds maintenance manager. He has more than 20 years of experience in landscaping, irrigation and maintenance and was named Employee of the Year while working as irrigation specialist and field supervisor for the Ko Olina Community Association.

Ho'ala offers a broad array of services to condominiums, commercial buildings and community associations.

HALE KU'IKE

Jane Maxwell has been hired as director of nursing at Hale Ku'ike, an adult residential care home for people with memory impairments. She was previously the quality director for Helping Hands Hawaii.

HEIDE & COOK

Heide & Cook Ltd., one of Hawai'i's largest full-service mechanical contractor and air conditioning service companies, has hired Richard Lorenzotti as technical services engineer. He is responsible for assisting new and existing clients with their air conditioning, fire sprinkler, plumbing, sheet metal and warehousing needs while promoting sustainable and energy-efficient design projects.

AHAHUI KOA ANUENUE

Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the fundraising arm of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Athletics Department, has announced the hiring of Alvin Katahara as the director of annual giving for UHM athletics. His responsibilities include coordinating and developing an annual giving campaign that supports and raises funds for all athletics programs. He was previously employed at The Honolulu Advertiser as its director of business development.

OCEANIC INSTITUTE

The Oceanic Institute board of trustees has elected Bruce Yoshida of the law firm Hisaka Yoshida and Cosgrove to serve as a member of the board. Yoshida has been practicing law in Hawai'i since 1980, and is a member of the Hawai'i State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

TOASTMASTERS

Toastmasters District 49 has announced its newly elected officers. They are: district governor, CAROLYN "CAT" SAWAI, a civil engineer with the Board of Water Supply; lieutenant governor of education, ANNE MYERS, with First Hawaiian Bank; lieutenant governor of marketing, FRANK VARGO, operations engineer with Hawaiian Electric; division of governors members, DAN ABESHIMA, WENDY SANICO, FERNANDO SANTIAGO-MANDUJANO and JOHN WAYTE; public relations officer, LINA CARAHASEN; secretary, LAURIE MAKIYA, of First Insurance Company of Hawaii; and treasurer, JEROME FUKUHARA, vice president, First Hawaiian Bank.

FIRST RISK MANAGEMENT

Emi Swaim has joined First Risk Management Services, Inc. a subsidiary of First Insurance Company of Hawaii, as captive insurance manager. She will be responsible for developing and implementing captive insurance programs for new clients and for managing captive insurance companies in their day-to-day operations, including accounting and regulatory compliance.

KONA BREWING

Kona Brewing Company has hired Rick Shannon as human resources director. He is responsible for the human resources needs of the firm's 170 employees. Shannon has 30 years of experience in the human resources field.

CB RICHARD ELLIS

CB Richard Ellis has added Brent Davidson to its brokerage team in Hawai'i. He is an associate specializing in industrial and investment property. He previously worked as an account executive for CoStar Group, and as a financial analyst for The Mills Group.

AQUA HOTELS

Aqua Hotels & Resorts has appointed Dan Bayne and Ann Ikuta to its sales team and Pacific Air Agency Group as the company's general sales agent for South Korea.

As director of sales — groups, Bayne will be responsible for growing Aqua's Group business from all markets. He has served as director of sales and marketing for Marc Resorts and director of sales at Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio and Outrigger Hotels & Resorts.

As sales and events manager for Hotel Wailea Maui, Ikuta is responsible for growing business in all markets for the Hotel Wailea Maui and is the on-site point-of-contact for travel partners. She has years of hotel management experience in the areas of catering, conference services and guest services, and was most recently director of revenue for the Four Seasons Maui .

ALOHA UNITED WAY

Davelyn Adversalo has joined Aloha United Way as an information and referral specialist, providing phone and clerical services for the agency's 211 information and referral hot line. She is responsible for answering all incoming calls and providing clients with information and referrals to appropriate service providers.

BANK OF HAWAII

Paul Angello has joined Bank of Hawaii as senior vice president and director of credit review. His responsibilities include managing the credit review team and identifying, measuring and reporting credit risk issues and trends. He was most recently a management consultant to Bank of Hawaii.

Timothy Padgett has been hired as senior vice president and collections and recovery manager. He has more than 30 years of banking experience in collection, consumer lending and retail banking. His responsibilities include managing the daily operations of collections and recovery for consumer and business banking products.
