Japanese drowning fatality off Hilton Village identified

Advertiser Staff

A Japanese tourist who drowned while swimming off the Hilton Hawaiian Village was positively identified yesterday as Yoichiro Yamada, 29, the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office said.

Yamada was reported missing Friday. Around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night, Honolulu firefighters responded to a reported drowning at 1651 Ala Moana Blvd., also known as Kaisers. When firefighters arrived, Yamada's body was already on shore.

The body was found floating in the water just off the Hilton pier used by Atlantis Submarines to shuttle customers out to their submarines.

Yamada's family had previously provided emergency responders with a photo of Yamada.
