Police said officers thwarted what appeared to be a burglary in progress Tuesday afternoon in Makaha.

A 49-year-old woman called police at about 3:15 p.m. to report that what appeared to be a burglary was taking place at a home near the intersection of Farrington Highway and Lahilahi Street.

Patrol officers were sent to the home, checked inside and arrested a 36-year-old homeless man on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
