Firefighters contain wildfire that burned about 40 acres

Advertiser Staff

Firefighters yesterday contained a wildfire that burned about 40 acres of old sugar cane fields near the Pearl City Industrial Park.

The fire was reported about 1:25 p.m. Five engines, three tankers and two helicopters were dispatched to battle the blaze, said Capt. Terry Seelig, HFD spokesman.

Seelig said no structures or property were threatened. He said firefighters contained the blaze about 3 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Seelig said several other fires have been reported in that general area over the past few weeks and that investigators have determined that some of the blazes were deliberately set.

He asked that anyone with information on any of the fires call police.
