Maui motorcyclist dies of injuries

A 51-year-old Maui man who suffered critical injuries when his motorcycle crashed Wednesday evening died Thursday morning, Maui Police said.

The victim was identified as Alberto C. Tejeda of Kahului. Tejeda was pronounced dead at 10:15 yesterday morning at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Police said Tejeda was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on Papa Place in Kahului when he lost control and struck a curb on Hukilike Street at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Tejeda, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle, police said. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The fatality is the 11th for Maui County so far this year compared with 13 at the same time in 2008, police said.
