MAC artists creating massive tableau at Ala Moana Center

Advertiser Staff

To celebrate today’s launch of the new MAC Make-up Art Cosmetics Fall color collection, and as part of Ala Moana Center’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, MAC artists will create a massive art installation that will cover the face of the retail store, today through Sunday.
Photographer Marilyn Minter, illustrator Maira Kalman and painter Richard Phillips created exclusive works for the fall collection. The event will feature two tableaus: one with models bodypainted to blend into the Phillips painting and one that brings Maira Kalman’s illustration to life.
It will take a total of nine make-up artists working for six to eight hours each day to create the installation. They will be working through 7 p.m. each day at the store location.
As part of the event, six artists from Oahu will also be creating portraits of mall visitors at CenterStage, noon to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday. People can sit for an artist to have works of art created of them, which they will be able to take home courtesy of MAC.
