HOT TO TROT

Go ahead and lament the lack of good live music in this city, but there's nothing to complain about when a great band like Band of Horses gets booked to play our very own little Pipeline Café, and we get to see them up close for a mere $22. A super-popular band in a small venue for a small price? Right now, all of America is jealous. Since releasing its 2006 debut album, "Everything All the Time," the five-piece indie rock outfit with Southern rock tendencies has been named one of the best groups in indie rock by Rolling Stone, Paste, Spin and The New York Times.

ON BECOMING A STATE

Kumu Kahua Theatre's "The Statehood Project," a collection of works by Hawai'i writers, poets and playwrights that represent multiple views on the issue of becoming a state, opens at 8 tonight. ($5-$16, 536-4441).

SAKE TO ME

The annual Joy of Sake ($70, www.joyofsake.com, 222-0195) will be held from 6 to 9 tonight at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Sample 270 premium sakes from around the world, as well as appetizers courtesy of Honolulu's top chefs. Tables are sold out, but individual tickets are still available.
