Advertiser Staff

A 51-year-old motorcyclist died yesterday morning of injuries suffered in a Wednesday night crash, Maui police said.

Police identified the victim as Alberto C. Tejeda of Kahului. Tejeda was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. yesterday at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Police said Tejeda was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Papa Place in Kahului when he lost control and hit a curb on Hukilike Street at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Tejeda, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle, police said. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

It was the 11th traffic fatality in Maui County this year, compared with 13 at this time in 2008, police said.
