     • Phillies romp, 12-3

TORONTO — J.D. Drew homered twice, Jon Lester pitched eight strong innings and Boston beat Toronto, 8-1, last night to complete a three-game sweep.

Victor Martinez connected for the second straight night for the Red Sox, who have hit two or more homers in six consecutive games, and nine of 10.

"It seems like when one guy gets hot, a lot of guys get hot," Drew said. "The key is to try and keep going as a team, get quality at-bats, getting guys in in key situations."

The Red Sox have 33 homers in August, two shy of the team record for that month set in 2006. The AL wild card leaders have 10 games remaining this month, including a pivotal series this weekend against the East-leading New York Yankees at Fenway Park.

Lester (10-7) allowed one run and three hits to win for the first time in five starts.

    RANGERS 11, TWINS 1

Nelson Cruz, who missed 15 games because of a sprained left ankle, homered in his return, Marlon Byrd connected twice and Julio Borbon hit the first of his career as host Texas routed Minnesota.

    INDIANS 11, ANGELS 3

Justin Masterson (4-4) gave up a run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings, and rookie Matt LaPorta had a career-high three RBIs as host Cleveland battered Los Angeles starter John Lackey (8-6), who allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings.

    ORIOLES 8, RAYS 7

Brian Roberts hit his fourth career grand slam and Nolan Reimold added a three-run shot as visiting Baltimore opened up an 8-4 lead, then held off Tampa Bay to stop a five-game losing streak.

    TIGERS 7, MARINERS 6

Clete Thomas' two-out, RBI single capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as AL Central-leading Detroit rallied from a 6-2 deficit with three runs in the sixth and two more in the ninth to beat Seattle.
