A Kaçaçawa man has been arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide following an accident that killed a bicyclist yesterday near Kualoa Ranch.

Police arrested Wayne Vierra Jr., 37, around 7:25 p.m. yesterday, nearly two hours after the bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and killed. The accident occurred on Kamehameha Highway about 5:40 p.m.
Vierra was released pending further investigation.
The rider of the bicycle, a man believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene, said city Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
Police closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions while vehicular homicide officers conducted their investigation. Police reopened the highway at 9:40 p.m. One traveler reported counting several hundred Kahuku-bound vehicles backed up on the highway.
