MLB: Phillies call up Cairo, put Dobbs on DL

Associated Press

NEW YORK — The Philadelphia Phillies have purchased the contract of infielder Miguel Cairo from Triple-A Lehigh Valley after placing third baseman Greg Dobbs on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right calf.

Cairo started the year with the Phillies and was 2 for 17 before being designated for assignment May 15. He's hitting .265 with 27 homers and 318 RBIs for nine teams over 15 big league seasons, including Philadelphia's opponent Sunday, the Mets.

To make room for Cairo on the 40-man roster, the Phillies transferred left-hander Antonio Bastardo to the 60-day DL.

Dobbs left in the fourth inning Friday night with a strained right calf and did not play Saturday. He is hitting .257 with five homers and 18 RBIs.
