Minaya ties record with 8 TD passes

P.J. Minaya tied a state record by throwing eight touchdown passes in leading Pac-Five over McKinley, 66-40, last night in an interleague game at Roosevelt.

Minaya threw for 359 yards, and tied the single-game touchdown pass record set by Saint Louis' Timmy Chang in 1999.

Minaya, a senior at Hanalani, has thrown for 15 touchdowns and passed for 729 yards in two games for the Wolf Pack (2-0) of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.

McKinley, of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association, fell to 1-1.

Last Saturday, Minaya threw seven touchdown passes to help beat Kaimuki, 48-19, in the opener of the Father Bray Classic nonleague high-school football game at Aloha Stadium.

Phil Hogan ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and J.B. Fontenot completed two touchdowns to TJ Reid as the host Rams routed Na Koa in the OIA White Conference opener for both. Hogan scored on runs of 16 and 59 yards, while Fontenot had touchdown passes of 12 and 36 yards to Reid, who finished with four catches for 95 yards.
