Adam Richman, host of "Man vs. Food," dropped in on several O'ahu restaurants recently, and a segment on his visit will debut Sept. 9 on the Travel Channel. MAC 24-7 in Waikiki was one of his stops, where he accepted the challenge of attempting to finish a three-tier stack of 14-inch pancakes in an hour and a half. Watch the show to see if he succeeded.

The restaurant will host a "MAC-Daddy" event at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 while "Man vs. Food" airs on TV screens around the restaurant (on Oceanic channel 325). In addition, they're offering the opportunity for diners to accept the pancake-eating challenge and win complimentary pancakes and a one-night stay at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio, where the restaurant is located. The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. Reservations: 921-5564.

STUDENTS PRESENT 'FUTURE' CUISINE

"The Future of Hawaii Regional Cuisine." What is it? If you're free tonight, you can get a hint at Alan Wong's Restaurant, where four of six members of the American Culinary Federation National Student Championship team from Kapi'olani Community College will join up with new-generation farmers Shin Ho of Ho Farms, Kylie Matsuda of Kahuku Farms and Stephanie Nozawa of Nozawa Farms to create a forward-looking menu. For a chef of Wong's stature to turn over even a portion of his kitchen to a group of cooking students is a rare occurrence and shows his commitment to local culinary education.

The occasion is part of Wong's Farmer Series Dinners, several of which are coming up in September and October. The five-course fixed-price menu (no a la carte menu available tonight) will be $75 per person or $105 with wines. Reservations: 949-2526.
