Advertiser staff

In the beginning, the American Cancer Society’s Boots on the Beach fundraiser was an anniversary celebration, which became a a yearly western-style themed party in Hawaii. Guests don their favorite cowboy outfit, hat and pair of boots.
Cocktails, dinner, games, a silent auction and dancing to the music of Dita Holifield and the Red Handed Band will be featured. This year’s recipient of the Patti Schuler Recognition Award goes to Dita Holifield, a cancer survivor recognized for her many outstanding contributions to the American Cancer Society and the community.
The event takes place Saturday, October 24, at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and program begin at 7 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom. Tickets are available at the American Cancer Society: $250 to $10,000.
