An 18-year-old woman whose nude body was found in a Kalihi alley Monday was strangled, the Honolulu medical examiner's office said.

Relatives and friends of the victim have identified her as Iris Kaikana-Rodrigues, a McKinley High School graduate who worked part time at the Fort Street McDonald's restaurant.

Police have reclassified the case as a homicide.

Police said the woman was last seen shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday. Her body was discovered the following morning lying face-down in an alley off Winant Street, next to Kamehameha Homes public residential complex where Kaikana-Rodrigues lived with an uncle.

Neighborhood residents reportedly heard a woman's screams Sunday night, although apparently no one called police.
