Six Hawai'i programs will receive a total of $6.3 million in federal money for marine fisheries management, coral reef ecosystem research and other projects, U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, D-Hawai'i, said.

The grants will be disbursed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Four University of Hawai'i programs are among the recipients: the Sea Level Center, JIMAR Coastal Research Program, Pelagic Fisheries Research Program and Protected Species Research Program.

Other recipients are the Hawaii Sustainable Fisheries Development Project and the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council.
