All kinds of electronic items welcome at recycling event

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i County officials announced that all types of electronic items will be accepted for recycling at an event next week, including televisions, computers, laptops, monitors, printers, fax machines and stereo equipment.

The two-day recycling event will be held in the Vidinha Stadium parking lot from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5.

The Sept. 4 collection is designated for businesses. Businesses should pre-register for the event by calling 808-241-4841. The Sept. 5 collection is open to residents.

There is no charge to participate in this county-sponsored event.

Items collected will be shipped to E-World Recyclers in California for recycling and reuse.

All data storage devices collected will be cleaned or destroyed. Those who are concerned about sensitive data should remove the data prior to recycling by using any of the following methods: remove or retain the hard drive, physically destroy the hard drive or erase data from the hard drive.

For instructions on how to erase data from a hard drive, contact a computer specialist.

For more information about the electronic recycling event, visit www.kauai.gov/recycling or call the County Recycling Office at 808-241-4841.
