Little League: Mexico beats Texas, wins third-place game

Associated Press

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Raymundo Berrones drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run homer and Reynosa, Mexico beat San Antonio, Texas, 5-4 in the Little League World Series consolation game on Sunday.

Trailing 4-3 in the top of the sixth, Luis Perez singled to open the inning and Berrones followed with a line shot that just cleared the centerfield fence at Volunteer Stadium.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Steven Cardone's RBI double.

Mexico rallied for a 3-1 lead in the third on Raul Rojas' RBI single and Perez's two-run triple.

Texas tied the game in the third, then surged ahead in the fourth on Nicholas Smisek's RBI single before Berrones' blast in the sixth.

Reliever Jorge Maldonado struck out four over the final two innings for the win.
