CLARENCE T.C. CHING FOUNDATION

R. Stevens Gilley has been elected president of the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation by the organization's board of trustees. Gilley, who spent 50 years in the commercial real estate and hotel business on the Mainland, was retained as a consultant in 2005 for the sale of the Kukui Gardens affordable housing complex in Honolulu. Gilley subsequently was appointed chief administrative officer of the foundation, which has awarded more than $20 million in grants since the sale of Kukui Gardens in 2007.

HAWTHORNE CAT

Hawthorne Cat has appointed Mike Carcioppolo its corporate manager of rental services. He will be responsible for the rental operations in San Diego, Hawai'i and Guam. A 20-year veteran of the firm, he will continue to manage Hawthorne's product support sales and emissions solutions departments.

Hawthorne Cat is the authorized dealer for Caterpillar construction and power equipment in San Diego, Hawai'i, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa.

HAWAII STATE BAR ASSOCIATION

Norman Cheng has been selected to participate in the Hawaii State Bar Association's first Leadership Institute. Cheng is an associate at Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher. At the Institute, he will gain valuable leadership insights through interaction with legislators, government officials, civic and business leaders and members of the judiciary.

SYNGENTIA

Mark Phillipson has joined Syngentia's Hawai'i operations as general manager. He will lead the company's extensive corn and soy product development and supply chain facilities in Hawai'i. The research and product development undertaken at the Hawai'i facilities are a critical component of the growth of seed research in Hawai'i and throughout the world.

HO'ALA LANDSCAPE

Ho'ala Landscape and Maintenance, a full-service grounds and building maintenance firm, has appointed Jason Sullivan as weekend supervisor. Sullivan maintains and manages common areas and lagoons during the peak traffic times at the Ko Olina Resort & Marina. He was formerly water quality and control supervisor at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park and machine operator/manager at Rad Motor Sports.
