Police seek assistance in finding 2 missing people

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in finding two missing adults.

Phillip "Kaipo" Pai, 32, was fishing April 1 with a friend in the area of Orr's Beach in Waa Waa, Puna, on a small offshore island. As Pai attempted to get back to shore by jumping into a channel between the shore and island, police said, he was washed under by large sets of waves. Fire rescuers searched the area but never found him.

Pai is described as Hawaiian, 5-feet-7, 175 pounds, with short black hair, brown eyes and a tan complexion.

Patricia Alene Kenny of Port Townsend, Wash., was last seen a year ago — Aug. 30, 2008, in Hawaiian Paradise Park. Four days later, police found her rental car on Shell Road in Nanawale Estates subdivision.

Kenny is described as Caucasian, 5-foot-5, about 165 pounds, with blond medium-length hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on either Pai or Kenny is asked to call Detective Kelley Matsumoto at (808) 961-2380 or the police nonemergency line at (808) 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity may call CrimeStoppers at (808) 961-8300.
