Water main break repaired in Nanakuli; Residents urged to continue to conserve

Advertiser Staff

Repair crews have fixed a broken 24-inch water main on Farrington Highway between Nanakuli and Haleakala avenues that disrupted town-bound lanes of Farrington beginning around 10:30 a.m. today.

A private contractor working in the area accidentally damaged the water main, which supplies about 60 percent of the water to the Leeward Coast.
However, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply is asking that residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha use water for essential needs only — such as cooking, drinking and personal hygiene — to allow area reservoirs to recover.
Residents are asked to refrain from doing laundry, watering lawns, washing cars and other nonessential water activities.
The Board of Water Supply will send an update when water conservation is no longer necessary.
