State cancels tonight’s road work in Makapuu

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Transportation has canceled tonight’s road closure of Kalanianaole Highway in Makapuu because equipment problems.

The state Sunday began the nighttime closure of the highway for much-needed retaining wall work between the Makapuu Lookout parking lot and the Makapuu Beach Park parking entrance. The $7.8 million project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2010.
The night work will resume tomorrow from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Friday. Construction was set to be halted Friday and resume in January, but the state said work will be held from 9:30 p.m. Sunday to 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area.
