Community forum for Turtle Bay set

Advertiser Staff

The development at Turtle Bay Resorts appears to be at a critical junction with opponents calling for a community forum to discuss updates from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kahuku High & Intermediate School cafeteria.

Tim Vandeveer, co-chairman of Defend Oahu Coalition, said several actions are moving foward that will lay the course for development there.
° The city Department of Planning and Permitting is reportedly close to issuing a final subdivision permit which would allow the developer to move ahead with plans that include up to five new hotels, Vandeveer said.
° The State Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Dec. 17 on the need for a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on the development because it is more than 20 years old.
° The resort property is changing ownership this month and the new owner is reportedly working on a new business model for the resort, he said.
“We feel it’s really important to get the community out and have their input heard,” Vandeveer said.
