Kekaulike Mall plans event to lure shoppers Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Kekaulike Mall in Chinatown will hold a "renewal" Christmas celebration Saturday in an effort to bring people back to the center.

The event is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. and will feature a Chinese lion dance, a Santa Claus, free presents for kids and entertainment.

The gathering coincides with Honolulu City Lights so attendees can view the annual Christmas parade from the mall.

Organizers suggest that people plan on parking before 5 p.m. since many streets in the area are closed from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the Christmas parade.

The celebration is an effort to clean up Kekaulike Mall.

Earlier this month, several Chinatown organizations came together to address concerns about the mall, and partnered with the city to remove piles of rubbish and urge merchants to clean up after themselves.
