Sakamoto pool in Wailuku closed for repairs

Advertiser Staff

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division announced today that the Coach Sakamoto Pool will be closed today through Dec. 11 for repairs and maintenance.

Pool officials discovered a malfunction to pumps this morning, which caused motor failure. Repairs are expected to take one week. A broken heater is also being repaired.

Sakamoto Pool is at 700 Halia Nakoa St. in Wailuku, next to the War Memorial Stadium and gymnasium. It was named after legendary swim coach Soichi Sakamoto who trained Olympic champions in irrigation ditches in the 1930s and ‘40s.

For more information, call the County of Maui Aquatic Division hotline at 808-270-8208 for daily updates on pool schedules, or visit www.mauicounty.gov for a listing of alternate pools.
