'Amahl and the Night Visitors' opens tonight

Honolulu Theatre for Youth and Hawaii Opera Theatre are offering a co-production of the popular English-language opera 'Amahl and the Night Visitors," opening tonight and continuing on Saturdays through Dec. 19.

The 50-minute family-friendly opera tells the story of a poor child who learns the power of giving and charity when he and his mother have an encounter with three gift-bearing kings who are following a star.

The show opens tonight at 7:30 p.m., then continues tomorrow, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m., with an additional 1:30 p.m. performance on Dec. 19 only.

Tickets for tonight's opening performance and reception are $10-$20, while Saturday tickets are $16 general and $8 for children, college students with ID and seniors over 60. Active duty military can receive a free child admission with the purchase of each regularly price adult admission.
