Stranded fishing boat freed from reef off Kewalo Basin

Advertiser Staff

A 75-foot fishing vessel that ran aground Wednesday off Kewalo Basin was freed from the reef yesterday.

The Logan ran aground at 7:45 a.m.about 25 yards offshore in the Point Panic area, said Deborah Ward, spokeswoman for the Department of Land and Natural Resources. Ward said the boat was freed early yesterday, during high tide.

Ward said the owner hired a private salvage company to free the boat.

The boat was towed to Keehi Marine Center for repairs because the grounding punched a small hole through its hull, Ward said.
