Homeless man says he was set on fire while sleeping

Police have opened an attempted-murder investigation after a homeless man reported he was set on fire while sleeping yesterday morning in Pä'ia.

The 27-year-old victim suffered second-degree burns on half of his body and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. Police said the injured man came to the Pä'ia Shell Station to report the incident.

Police believe an unidentified homeless man may have been involved.

No arrests have been made.
