Shoppers warned of armed robber

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu police are warning residents of two incidents in which a man armed with a handgun robbed women as they were getting into their cars.

The incidents occurred Sunday afternoon in parking lots of shopping centers in Aiea and Pearl City, police said. The robberies occurred within 30 minutes of each other, police said.
In both cases, the women told police they were getting into their cars when they were approached by a male with a black handgun. The male threatened both women and robbed one, police said.
Maj. Clayton Kau, HPD spokesman, cautioned people to be aware of their surroundings as they approach their cars. Kau said in these cases, the male attempted to climb into the vehicle as the victims were opening the doors.
The man is described as in his late 20s, 5 feet 8 and 150 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call 911.
