It's that's time of the year and if you know animal lovers, giving them gifts for their pets is the best thing to make them happy.

Here are my suggestions:

1. Barking Dog Blankets: Ginger Edmunds sews beautiful aloha print blankets and pillows for your pet. She got the idea when her "barking dog" Rockie would track sand and dirt into her car and home. Edmunds donates a portion of her sales every month to an animal charity. (A double win!) These beautiful gifts can be purchased at 55 Pawsh Place, Crazy Canine and Global Village on O'ahu or at www.1000markets.com/users/wwwbarkingdogblankets.

2. Fauna Collection's UH tees. Want to show your support for the Warriors and keep your pets stylish at the same time? The Fauna Collection has a wide assortment of pet tees with the University of Hawai'i logo. Perfect for any UH fan and a sure conversation starter. They are sold at Rainbowtique and local pet stores. www.ilovefauna.com.

3. The Furminator. This is the best grooming tool — it removes extra hair and cuts down on shedding. You can get the product at your local pet store or at Amazon.

4. Give a Dog or Cat First Aid booklet from the American Red Cross. The Instructional booklet and DVD are easy to understand and informative. Cost: $16.95. To order, please call the Hawaii Chapter at 739-8128 or 739-8146 or visit their store at the Diamond Head facility.

5. Make a monetary donation to your favorite animal charity in your friend's name. There's no greater gift of love for someone who loves animals than to help the ones in need.
