Hundreds honored retired Navy Lt. John Finn, the last living Medal of Honor recipient from the Day of Infamy, at Marine Corps Base Hawaii this morning in a tribute to his bravery on Dec. 7, 1941.

Eight minutes before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they attacked then-Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay where Finn was chief aviation ordnanceman.
Finn was able to muster his crews and with weapons salvaged from bombed-out PBY Catalina flying boats, returned fire until the end of the attack.
Some say Finn’s action that day was the first Medal of Honor action of World War II because the Japanese struck there first.
At 100 years old he is the oldest living Medal Honor recipient.
The program also recognized Carol Shimada, 82, for 65 years of service to the Marine Corps.
