High surf closes part of Kaena Point park

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources said it is closing the Keawaula portion of Kaena Point State Park today for public safety, at the recommendation of city lifeguards.

The park gate will be locked and signs posted. DLNR will reopen the park once the danger from the high surf has diminished and current forecasts indicate the park may be able to reopen on Wednesday.

“We urge the public to respect this park closure and to not enter the park due to unsafe conditions from high surf,” said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairwoman, in a news release.
