Highway work will require closing road an extra night

Advertiser Staff

Kalaniana'ole Highway, between the upper Makapu'u Lookout parking lot and Makapu'u Beach Park, will be closed for an extra night Wednesday night through Thursday morning because of delays in safety improvement work.

State Department of Transportation officials said that the additional night work is necessary because of "delays caused by heavy rains and other complications."

The highway is scheduled to be closed from last night through 5:30 a.m. today and again at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday through 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

The $7.8 million projects includes the construction of a rockfall impact barrier, repairs to an existing retaining wall, slope stabilization, pavement work and installation of electrical cables and conduits.
