Jewelry firm starts treasure hunt today

To celebrate its 136th anniversary, Hildgund Jewelry is giving away nearly $50,000 in merchandise in 136 gift boxes placed in various public locations throughout O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island from today through Dec 31.

The kama'äina jewelers will also be leaving 136 meal vouchers at various parks and shelters to help feed Hawai'i's homeless.

"When a person finds the gift or voucher, that's it," said Bruce Bucky, Hildgund's president. "There are no strings attached."

It's a game of finders-keepers with jewelry items ranging from $100 to $8,000 in value. New gifts will be hidden every day. Look for a white wrapped box with a gold bow.

Hildgund Jewelry stores are in the Kahala Hotel & Resort and J.W. Marriott Hotel on O'ahu, Four Seasons Resorts on Maui and the Big Island, and at the Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani Resorts on the Big Island. Information on the stores: 523-1123 or www.hildgund.com.
