Motorcycle rider killed in Kailua crash identified

Advertiser Staff

Officials at Marine Corps Base Hawaii have identified Sgt. Alex A. Limjoco as the motorcyclist who died early Tuesday in Kailua after he crashed into a telephone pole and then a concrete wall.

The incident happened a little past midnight near Oneawa and Manono streets. Police said the motorcycle was headed north on Oneawa when the rider lost control of the 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 1000.
Police have said speed may have been a factor but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role.
Limjoco, 24, was wearing a helmet and there were no other vehicles involved. He was an avionics technician with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363, Marine Aircraft Group 24.
Marine Corps officials said Limjoco had attended the Base Safety's Basic Riders Course, the Group Riders Course and the Sport Bike Riders Course at the Kaneohe Marine base.
They said Limjoco’s death was the first motorcycle fatality involving a service member from Marine Corp Base Hawaii since 2003.
According to a Marine Corps Base Hawaii news release, in addition to mandatory motorcycle safety courses, the Kaneohe base hosts "Track Day" events that allow riders to develop or refine motorcycle handling skills in a controlled, risk-mitigated environment.
The base's fourth Track Day event will be held Friday.
