Man, 71, charged with shooting ailing wife

Advertiser Staff

A 71-year-old Kailua man was charged today with shooting his wife as she laid in a hospital bed Tuesday.

Robert Yagi was charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to make his initial court appearance tomorrow.
Yagi is accused of firing a shotgun round from a flare gun at his wife Tuesday evening at the Castle Medical Center. Leatrice Yagi, 71, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, police said.
Robert Yagi was arrested soon after the incident. Police believe he was attempting to end his wife’s life because she was suffering from a terminal illness, according to a police affidavit filed in District Court.
